Get started with SAP HANA Cloud Integration

SAP HANA Cloud Integration (HCI) is making cloud integration simple and reliable. Hence it is SAP’s strategic integration platform for SAP Cloud Customers. It provides out-of-the-box connectivity across cloud and on-premise solutions. Beneath the real-time process integration capabilities it also contains a data integration part that allows efficient and secure usage of ETL tasks to move data between on-premise systems and the cloud. Additionally to these two different integration flavors SAP is offering prepackaged integration content as reference templates that allows customers to quickly realize new business scenarios. This drastically reduces integration project lead times and lowers resource consumption significantly.

10 Golden Rules for SAP HANA Project Managers

One of the things I do in my day job is to oversee the HANA projects that we have going on. I usually provide some advice at the beginning, have a QA role and if the project needs a little help at critical points, I'll get stuck in. I've done this on all the 32 HANA projects we had going on over the last year and so I've got a few battle scars. I thought I'd share my experiences, which relate to any SAP upgrade or migration project but which are particularly important for SAP HANA Migrations.

Why are they particularly important? Well, businesses have high expectations of HANA and it's not just a "database" shift to the business. They have been promised amazing things, and it is important that you setup the project to succeed. Here are my rules.

1) Governance is by far the most important thing

I learnt everything I know about this from master project manager Kiran Patel. When Kiran is managing the project, I don't even need to check on anything. With a good project manager, you can have bad infrastructure, business delays, a flood or even bad technical resources. They will ensure that the business is kept in check, timelines are assured and acts of god are avoided. OK, maybe not the act of god. They will get the right resource model both with the business, customer IT and third party suppliers and manage the relationship between customer, SAP and consulting.

SAP HANA Dynamic Tiering Setup

What is Dynamic Tiering?:

The SAP HANA dynamic tiering option is a native big data solution for SAP HANA. The dynamic tiering option adds smart, disk-based extended storage to your SAP HANA database. Dynamic tiering enhances SAP HANA with large volume, warm data management capability.

The dynamic tiering option adds the extended storage service to your SAP HANA system. You use the extended storage service to create the extended storage store and extended tables. Extended tables behave like all other HANA tables, but their data resides in the disk-based extended storage store.

Your application automatically determines which tier to save data to: the SAP HANA in-memory store (the hot store), or extended storage (the warm store). When you use dynamic tiering to place hot data in SAP HANA in-memory tables, and warm data in extended tables, highest value data remains in memory, and cooler less-valuable data is saved to the extended store. This can reduce the size of your in-memory database.

I have two Linux Hosts [I named as LinuxHost1, LinuxHost2] with same configuration and same root user and password.

HANA Server will be installed on LinuxHost1 and ES Server will be installed on LinuxHost2.              

Both the components cannot be installed on same Linux machine.
